Mohonk Mountain House Summer Travel Diary
My family and I just returned from a magical stay at Mohonk Mountain House! Although this was our third time visiting, it was our first time being there during the summer and I discovered so many new parts of the property that I had never seen before, like the tennis courts, new trails, the beach, the Granary outdoor dining room and more! Founded over 150 years ago, this Victorian castle resort is nestled in the Hudson Valley, only 90 miles north of New York City. Surrounded by 40,000 acres of forest, this National Historic Landmark resort offers farm-to-table cuisine and an award-winning spa.
There’s truly something for everyone at Mohonk any time of year! We loved exploring the lake - we took out a row boat, went pedal boating, and even went fishing! We had so much fun exploring the grounds, hiking the trails, swimming in the lake, and playing in the pool. Fun fact: there are speakers in the pool and you can hear music under water!
The kids loved roasting s’mores around the campfire and riding horses at the stable, and we all enjoyed the delicious food, which is made with locally-sourced ingredients. Meals are included with your stay at Mohonk. Dinner is a la carte, while breakfast and lunch are buffet. I love that the food is made with locally sourced ingredients and there are lots of options for all ages. Mohonk is also very allergy-aware and offers kosher-certified meals (just let them know what you need when you book your reservation.) I also really appreciated that they offered a full kids menu along with crayons and a coloring sheet for them.
Tea and cookies are served everyday from 4-5 pm, which was the perfect welcome when we checked in on Friday afternoon. We enjoyed our pre-dinner snack on the iconic rocking chairs overlooking the lake. Our hotel room was perfect for our family of four, with a queen bed, a twin bed and an air mattress. I loved all of the charming details in our room, like the working fireplace, antique furniture and rocking chairs on our balcony with a view of the lake. It was so much fun to do the Shabbat blessings on Friday evening surrounded by the beautiful mountains.
One of the highlights of our trip was swimming in the lake and spending time at the beach, which is open from late May to early September! This was our first time there and the girls wasted no time playing and burying each other in the sand. Adina Michael had fun jumping off the diving board over and over again!
