Mohonk Mountain House Spring Travel Diary

Last weekend, my family kicked off spring and the start of May at Mohonk Mountain House for their annual Tulip Festival. Although this was our second time visiting, it was our first time being there during the spring. You can read about our last visit in the winter of 2021 here. Founded over 150 years ago, this Victorian castle resort is nestled in the Hudson Valley, only 90 miles north of New York City. The scenic ride from our home in Brooklyn, NY was about 2 hours. Surrounded by 40,000 acres of forest, this National Historic Landmark resort offers farm-to-table cuisine and an award-winning spa

We stayed in a lovely room with charming details like a wood-burning fireplace and a balcony overlooking the beautiful Mohonk Lake. There are tons of activities and amenities for kids all year long. There’s an amazing indoor heated pool, archery, daily crafts, nightly entertainment, a campfire for roasting marshmallows, and more! The girls swam their hearts out and loved the underwater music at the pool. We also enjoyed the live music entertainment after dinner both nights - it was like attending a private concert!

There’s truly something for everyone at Mohonk any time of year! Adina and Noa loved exploring the lake - we took out a row boat, went pedal boating, and even went fishing! Mohonk Mountain House offers over 85 miles of hiking trails, ranging from beginner to advanced in difficulty. Michael and Adina went hiking one afternoon and the views of the lake and the property were unparalleled!

The meals were absolutely exceptional, with plenty of options for everyone! My husband and I loved that the dishes feature fresh ingredients from local Hudson Valley farms. The kids especially loved having dessert everyday ;) The main dining room features panoramic views of the Catskill mountains and original woodwork from 1893.  Pro-tip: ask your server for coloring pages and crayons for your kids. Overnight packages include 3 course meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The highlight of our stay was visiting the Mohonk annual Tulip Festival! The garden was so beautiful, with 20,000 vibrant red, yellow, pink, and purple tulips delicately placed. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and we ended up spending over 2 hours in the garden, soaking up the sun and taking it all in. Tulip passes are available until May 8, 2022 and include access to the Mountain House, grounds, and gardens, as well as afternoon tea and cookies.

Mohonk’s mission is to provide opportunities for recreation and renewal of body, mind, and spirit in a beautiful natural setting and they did just that! Between the pristine facilities, incredibly helpful and friendly staff, and the breathtaking natural surroundings, I can see why guests leave this place with a renewed connection with their families and nature. You can see more from our trip in the “Monhonk” on my Instagram and make sure to head to their website to find out more about Mohonk and all the memories you can make there with your family!
