Celebrating Tu Bishvat with Kids!

Tu Bishvat starts tomorrow night, Wednesday January 27! Have you ever heard of this Jewish holiday? ๐ŸŒณ Also known as the new year of the trees, Tu Bishvat reminds us of our connection to the earth and to our role as caretakers of the environment! ๐ŸŒ Kind of like the Jewish earth day! In my opinion, Tu Bishvat is one of the most underrated holidays. ๐ŸŒฑ After all, at first glance - celebrating trees in the dead of winter doesnโ€™t make the most sense. ๐Ÿค” But it happens to be one of my favorites! We get to plant trees, try new fruits, and enjoy a festive meal with lots of wine! Whatโ€™s not to love? ๐Ÿท๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿซ’๐Ÿฅœ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿฅ‘๐ŸŠKeeping reading to learn more about this holiday and for some fun Tu Bishvat crafts, recipes, books, and activity ideas that you can do with your family!

Days United Tu Bishvat Box

The girls and I had the best time decorating our home with the Days United Jewish Holiday Subscription Box for Tu Bishvat! ๐ŸŒธ Each box comes with everything you need to make holiday memories with your family, including crafts like this wooden almond tree, holiday banner, and โ€œSeven Speciesโ€ shaped chocolate. ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒณ Plus it includes seeds to plant your own herbs and a guidebook with the history of Tu BiShvat and how to have your own seder!

When we celebrate the New Year of the trees, itโ€™s a turning point in the seasonal cycle from winter to spring and a chance to appreciate Mother Nature. ๐ŸŒฟ I love how our Days United box makes it so easy and fun! They have eight different holiday-themed boxes throughout the year. I canโ€™t wait for the Purim one and the Passover one in the next few months! Use code Ariel15 for 15% off!

Tu Bishvat Sensory Bin:

Youโ€™ll need: An empty bin, black beans, pretend play fruits (we used the felt ones from Ikea), and pretend trees and flowers. Add all of the items together and let your childโ€™s imagination run wild! You could also collect items from nature (sticks, leaves, acorns, flowers, grass) to create a nature sensory bin! My daughters love sorting the items by type, color, and size.

PJ Library

Welcome to our Tu Bishvat playroom!! ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ“š I love to decorate our playroom for the holidays and to create a space that's right at my kids' level for them to learn, touch and feel the spirit of Tu Bishvat! ๐Ÿ’šI displayed all of our Tu Bishvat books on our toy shelf and most of them are from PJ Library. If you're looking for ideas for your family, head HERE to sign up for these FREE books to be sent to your home from PJ Library. This month, PJ Library sent us a special bonus gift with a mini book called โ€œThe Carob Treeโ€ and seeds to plant your own arugula microgreens and my girls absolutely loved it! ๐ŸŒฟ On their website you'll also find everything you need to get ready for this Jewish holiday including videos, recipes, and family activities. Tu Bishvat Fruit Platter

This fruit platter is as fun to create as it is to eat! ๐Ÿ’๐ŸŽ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿซ ๐Ÿ‡ Thereโ€™s a tradition to eat new fruits and nuts on this holiday, so why not make it extra yummy and fun? All you need are some different kinds of fruits, nuts, and a plate to put them on! I tried to use some of the 7 species of the Land of Israel (Dates, pomegranate, grapes, wheat, barley, figs, and olives.)
